MISSION

Creative Migration is an international arts organization rooted in Bangkok and Los Angeles, building cultural ecosystems for climate action. Through artistic practice, shared knowledge and community-driven collaboration, we empower artists, cultural workers and institutions to imagine and enact systemic responses to ecological change.

HISTORY & OUR NAME

Creative Migration was founded in 2005 by our Executive Director Susannah Tantemsapya in California. She expanded operations to Thailand in 2018 to open our largest project to date, Bangkok 1899, a cultural & civic hub established through funding from The Rockefeller Foundation and the Ford Philanthropy.

Since 2011, our nonprofit has employed environmentally regenerative practices throughout our projects and day-to-day operations. Throughout the years, we have accumulated knowledge and experience to create our organization-wide Climate Policy, which features guidelines and recommendations for all our operations.

The name Creative Migration was chosen to reflect movement, exchange, and collaboration across cultures. At the time of our founding, it described the flow of ideas, relationships and creative practices across borders, rather than migration issues as they are commonly understood nowadays. Today, the name reflects how our work moves between Bangkok, Los Angeles and global cultural networks: connecting people, practices and ecological approaches across regions.
