Bangkok 1899

Bangkok 1899 is Creative Migration's cultural and civic hub, housed in Ban Chao Phraya Thammasakmontri, a heritage building constructed in 1899 and designed by Italian architect Mario Tamagno. The space opened to the public in 2019 with support from Ford Philanthropy and the Rockefeller Foundation, and has since become a home for exhibitions, residencies, and community programming.

The building operates at the intersection of art, public engagement, and sustainability, hosting artist residencies, exhibitions, workshops, and convenings that connect Bangkok's creative community to broader conversations about climate and culture. Its programming reflects Creative Migration's belief that historic spaces can anchor forward-looking cultural work.

Bangkok 1899's model was recognized internationally at the 2026 UNESCO Jeju Forum, where it was highlighted as an example of adaptive reuse and cultural ecology in practice, a heritage site actively shaping how a city engages with art, sustainability, and civic life.
