International Artist Residency

The International Artist Residency is an invitation-only program at Bangkok 1899 that brings artists working across sound, visual art, and performance into direct exchange with Thai creatives and communities. Each residency centers on dialogue: visiting artists spend time developing new work in conversation with local collaborators, audiences, and the building's own layered history.

Past residents include sound artist Francisco López, whose residency culminated in the premiere of "HIMAVANTA" with support from the Embassy of Spain in Thailand; French visual artist Elvire Bonduelle, whose exhibition "Same Same" was supported by CEA/FREC Bangkok and the Embassy of France; and artist Sarah Rara, supported by the Ford Fund, the H.H. Powers Fund, and Williams College.

Across disciplines and countries of origin, the residency treats art as a bridge between international practice and the specific realities of place, using Bangkok 1899 as a meeting point where global conversations about migration, climate, and culture take shape locally.
